Bookwise reading group are all members of Stevenage Library, who provide us with a reading list of books from different genres from which the books are chosen every month. For this service the library charge an annual subscription fee. Currently its £33.00 per annum and we each paid an equal contribution in October 2025.

We are a group of enthusiastic readers who meet every third Wednesday afternoon of the month. We meet at one of the member's home, where we review and chat about the book we've just read, whilst having a cup of tea and biscuits/cake. We are a very sociable and chatty group and recently I set up a WhatsApp group for members to get in touch with each other.

The bookwise group was set up in May 2019 as the first book group was full. The group is limited to eight members and is currently full. The books from the library are of different genres which gives the opportunity to challenge us to read a genre we wouldn't normally read. This makes the discussion of our reviews more interesting, especially when its a book that some members have not enjoyed reading.

In December 2025 our book group meeting was at a pub where we had our Christmas lunch and enjoyed talking about the book 'Someone else's shoes' by Jojo Moyes while having lunch. The majority of the group agreed it was an enjoyable read and scored it 7 to 8.5 out of 10.

This month's books (January 2026) to be reviewed is Victoria Hislop's One August Night

A few of the other books we read in 2025:

Robert Harris - An act of oblivion

The Seventh Son - Sebastian Falks

The Giver of Stars - Jojo Moyes

The guest List - Lucy Foley,

Us three - Ruth Jones,
