Walks between 5 and 6 1/2 miles

There are many wonderful walks to choose from in Hertfordshire and south Bedfordshire for which OS maps and books may be used for further information, so why not come and join our friendly and sociable group of people for 2 to 2 ½ hours of exercise, and improve your health and well-being, with the opportunity to have a break and a social chat during or at the end of the walk. This may be a visit to a pub or cafe or taking your own refreshments.

Walks generally vary from 5 to 6 1/2 miles but occasionally walks up to 8 miles are undertaken. For people who wish to improve their fitness and / or would prefer to walk at a slower pace please see the link Walking Group 2 -Shorter Walks below for walks of around 3 to 3 1/2 miles.

The longer walks are every other Tuesday with shorter walks taking place on the intervening Tuesdays. In the event of cancellation due to bad weather we will often arrange to meet at a suitable indoor venue for a social chat and refreshments.

The walks are generally circular and we meet at 10:00am at the starting point of the walk, details of which are sent by WhatsApp or email: lifts may be arranged for those without their own transport on the day.

We encourage members to plan and lead a walk but this is not essential.

Please be aware that walks take place in the countryside where the terrain is often uneven and sometimes muddy. It is the walker's responsibility to ensure that suitable footwear and clothing are worn to suit the conditions and weather.

People wishing to participate in these walks must be members of Stevenage U3A. However, if you are unsure whether these walks are suitable for you you are welcome to join us for two walks before committing yourself to joining the U3A. The group leader will set up the required risk assessment which will be explained to new members joining.
